Catalogue > Cross-section rotation

This function works in principle in the same way than the function "FE-Mesh > Translation and rotation of nodes" selected in Properties > Cross-sections > FE Mesh with the same modification symbol (in the following called <ROTATION> button). The difference is that this function does not allow translation of the cross-section geometry but performs the default rotation without user specification for a series of cross-sections.

Note: The function is especially prepared for properly arranging un-symmetric cross-sections, where the principal axes of inertia do not coincide with the cross-section coordinate axes, in the structural model. I.e. the cross-section is rotated in the cross-section coordinate system such that the principal axes coincide with the coordinate axes. A respective beta angle is at the same time assigned to the affected structural elements in order to properly defining the arrangement of the principal axes in space. User has two possibilities for defining the beta angle value: Initialize the element-β-angle by the new CS β-angle or Update the existing element-β-angle by adding the new CS β-angle value to the element-β-angle, in the elements table where it previously established by User. An arithmetically averaged beta angle is added to the user-defined value if start and end point of the element have different cross-sections with different deviation of principal axes for coordinate axes.
Attention: The cross-section recalculation (Recalc pad wit option "Cross-section calculation" selected must have been perform prior to performing the rotation with selecting the Rotation button!
SettingDescription
Rotate all CS If the user has not marked any cross-sections (with <Ctrl> + Mouse-click) prior to selecting the Rotate symbol, all cross-sections will be marked automatically and rotated by the calculated beta angle when the OK button is selected. The beta angle of the affected structural elements is automatically adapted.
Rotate marked CS If the user has marked some of the cross-sections (with <Ctrl> + Mouse-click) prior to selecting the Rotate symbol, the marked cross-sections will be rotated by the calculated beta angle when the OK button is selected. The beta angle of the affected structural elements is automatically adapted.
Deselect unwanted CS This option allows for partially canceling out some of the markings or adding additional markings. With the button OK the program returns to the Catalogue mode where markings can be canceled out or again activated with using <Ctrl> + Mouse-click. For performing the actual rotations the user must then select the  Rotate symbol once more, and confirm the safety query "Should rotation be started?" with the OK button.
Modify Element Beta Initialize:The element beta angle will be initialized by the CS beta angle value. Update:The current CS beta angle value will be added to the element beta angle previously defined in the elements table.
